I apologize for the lack of blogs. Life at The People's Cake has been crazy!

Thursday, Oct. 14, was a wedding show to remember. We participated in the annual Urban Unveiled show at Benaroya Hall. It was amazing!

We met tons of fantastic engaged couples. Best wishes to all of you as you plan your upcoming weddings. We at The People's Cake would love to be part of it!

We also met Seattle-area wedding professionals. We're so lucky to be part of such a great group. Check out the photos below. I apologize for my lack of photography skills. I know that I shouldn't have used the flash, but I'm not steady enough to handhold the camera.

Yum! We presented taste tests of the Sweet Potato Chocolate
(Swiss chocolate cake with sweet potato mousse and brown sugar buttercream)
and the Royal Raspberry (vanilla bean cake with Grand Marnier simple syrup,
raspberry compote and Grand Marnier buttercream.)

The week after Urban Unveiled, we were part of the opening of the City Arts Fest. It was a multi-venue event that featured artists of all different genres. The opening reception was held at the Chase Jarvis studio. Chef Kaysie, along with the helpful interns, made a cake that can only be described as a masterpiece for the event.

Yep. That's a cake.

Yay! Another blog from The People's Cake. Hold on a second... It's Tuesday. What's going on here?!?!

I warned you about this last week. Tomorrow is my birthday. No blogging on my birthday. Celebrating, yes. Blogging, no. Anyway, on with this Tuesday blog.

I read somewhere that last Sunday, 10/10/10, was a lucky day for love. With three weddings that day, it was lucky for us!

First, check out the Bonnie cake. We love the Bonnie cake because of the differently shaped tiers. The bottom was square, the middle was hexagonal, and the top was circular. The sugar paste succulents on this cake were amazing. Look at the detail.

Up next, we've got the Rebecca cake. It was a four-tiered square cake with red berry branches on it. The berries and the branches were lovingly crafted out of sugar paste.

Also, we had the Dana cake. This beauty was inspired by a cake by Marina Sousa. Chef Kaysie was so excited to make this one. The flowers are peonies. Sugar paste, of course.

Finally, we have our lone groom's cake for this week. It's a vintage Volkswagen. Look at the photo below and guess which one is the cake. Give up? It's the big one!

Birthday Cake and Cinnamon Rolls

We had one birthday cake this past weekend. It's a red, black and white version of our popular Kylie cake. It was three tiers of red velvet awesomeness.

We also made a batch of cinnamon rolls for our rowing crew. Did you know that Chef Kaysie rows? She's pretty good, too. Here's a picture of me rolling the cinnamon rolls. Don't worry. I just got to roll them. I was not involved in the actual dough preparation.

I guess I should introduce myself. Hi, I'm Reneé, The People's Cake public relations manager. I don't bake. Trust me, that's a good thing. I do, however, get to taste test any new flavors that Chef Kaysie creates. My job rocks.

We've got a crazy, crazy weekend ahead of us. It's 10/10/10. Three wedding cakes and a groom's cake. Woohoo!

Oink, oink baby

Hi, I'm Herbie Hamhock, and I taste like bacon. Chocolate cake with bacon brown sugar buttercream to be exact. Check out my awesome profile shot. I was lucky enough to be the groom's cake at a wedding this past weekend.

The bride's cake for this wedding was pretty awesome, too. Check out Jen. She's a three-tiered beauty with a sugar paste peony.

Also, below we have the Kelly cake. The buttons were made of chocolate.

And, last but not least, we have cupcakes that we made just for us. What kind? Well, I'm glad you asked. We had some leftover bacon after making Herbie, so Chef Kaysie whipped up some maple pancake cupcakes with bacon brown sugar buttercream. It was heavenly breakfast in a cup.

On a sad note, fabulous intern Emily is leaving this week to go back to school in Chicago. However, we welcome intern Kelsey to our crazy bakery life. Yay interns!

What's black and white and pink all over?

The Katrina cake!

Chef Kaysie describes this cake as a "rhombal" shape. It's kind of curved, rhombus-y. No matter what you call it, it looked awesome! The four-tiered cake was covered with white fondant. Then, strips of cut black fondant were placed on top to create the zebra effect. The pink fondant ribbon topped it off.

We would love for you to stop by and see us there! We're very close to narrowing down our flavors, and you definitely don't want to miss the beautiful show cake Chef Kaysie has in the works. Remember all those sugar paste flowers we talked about last week? They're all going to be on this show-stopping cake.

We've got two wedding cakes and a groom's cake coming up this weekend. I'm not going to give you specifics about the groom's cake, but I bet he'll squeal with excitement when he sees it!

Flowers and S'mores

It's like a beautiful flower garden at The People's Cake! Chef Kaysie and the fabulous interns are busy making sugar paste peonies, hydrangea and tulips for the upcoming show cake to be featured at Urban Unveiled, a bridal show in Seattle. Check out some photos. Up top are the peonies.

I was going to upload some hydrangea step-by-step photos, but the photos aren't good. Bad lighting and not-so-great focus. My fault. I'll try again next week. However, above we have intern Alyssa working hard on a ton of hydrangea.

As mentioned, we had no weddings last week. Chef Kaysie took the weekend off to go camping. And the best part of camping would be the s'mores. There's nothing better than a s'more. Except s'more cupcakes! Yes. Graham cracker cupcakes filled with chocolate ganache and topped with bruleed marshmellow-like topping. Amazing. You don't know it, but you really wish you could have had one of these bad boys.

This week, we've got one exciting zebra wedding cake. Woohoo!

Kendra and Christy

We did two amazing wedding cakes this past weekend. Check them out and let us know what you think.

This is Kendra's cake. The bottom tier is Vanilla Raspberry, and the top tier is Oh My Chocolate - Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Compote and Dark Chocolate Ganache. Yum. Both tiers are covered with fondant, and the black piping on the bottom tier was inspired by the couple's invitation.

We also made a cake for Christy's wedding. Chef Kaysie (with the help of the wonderful interns) created sugar paste dahlias, zinnias and daisies to match the wedding's outdoor location. This beautiful cake was about 20 inches tall and full of tasty goodness. We love the crisp green with the white flowers for a late summer wedding.

No weddings this week because no one wants to get married on Sept. 11. So, we're keeping ourselves busy making mountains of sugar paste flowers for the upcoming Urban Unveiled bridal show to be held in Seattle on Oct. 14. Check back next week for some pictures of amazing sugar paste flowers and some behind the scenes shots of how they're made.
